- Register the (and each) event with WA Health Events registration (health.wa.gov.au)
- Comply with Covid Safety Plan requirements (for each event – QR code / scanning in etc)
- Enforce the Proof of Vaccinations requirements (ie for hospitality/canteen facilities and as a place operating under an occasion liquor permit)
- ENSURE (a) there are at least 2 square metres of publicly available space for each person present at the gathering; and (b) there are no more than 500 patrons present at the gathering at the same time; and (c) all persons present at the gathering wear a face covering at all times unless one of the face covering exceptions applies to them.
- A reasonable, common sense approach is what we have been told is the key consideration.

Where club activity is “business as usual” and doesn’t require any additional event approval (as highlighted above), that activity is deemed as a “community sporting event”, and the recently communicated restrictions on spectators numbers (ie competitor & parent / guardian) apply.
No restrictions apply to the number of volunteers and officials required to run a community sporting event. It makes practical sense that they are not impacted / restricted from attendance numbers.
This also extends to any one competitor who may have a race support team / pit crew of multiple people, who obviously are neither competitors or spectators/parent guardians. MWA recommends that clubs apply a “common sense” approach.
No doubt this advice may create further questions or action for you all. Also see the recent FB post and MWA news update on sporting clubs requirement to report any positive/ close-contact cases (sent out earlier today).
A further briefing is taking place with Sportwest and DLGSC this evening and I will provide further updates and FAQ’s as they come to hand.
