Hello all and thank you to those that I’ve already met or spoken to in the past few weeks, since taking over the leadership at Motorcycling WA.
My thanks to Joe McCarthy for leaving MWA in great financial shape and staffed with passionate and knowledgeable people whom I have already relied upon heavily in the few short weeks since I started in the role. As the new Chief Executive Officer at MWA, I have much to learn and many of our affiliate club officials, committee and membership, across a number of motorcycling disciplines, that I look forward to meeting.
I have spent the majority of my working life in State Government, managing regulatory compliance and enforcement roles and the last few years before starting with MWA, working in a member-based, not for profit labour Union, where I “looked after” members in metropolitan and regional WA. I look forward to interacting with and offering the help, guidance and advice that MWA had to offer, to our members and travelling to the regions to show our support .
Whilst not previously having been involved in managing motorsport, I have always enjoyed riding motorbikes and fondly recall the day my brothers and I got a Suzuki RM 80 (yes, it was a long time ago), as our first dirt bike and the many good times, thrills and spills we shared as kids. I still ride a road bike and have had the fortunate opportunity to undertake some bitumen and off-road adventure tour riding in South America, a few years ago.
As CEO, I strongly believe in equality, inclusion, respectful and fair competition and the promotion and development of motorcycle sport across all disciplines. That said, it is vitally important that all of us, regardless of the type of riding we choose, act in the best interests of the sport and act as role models for junior participants, whether that be at an open ride day, club event or state round. Encouraging, supporting and thanking the involvement of our many race officials and volunteers from all walks of life, whom without many events cannot be safely run, is also high on my list of priorities – thank you.
By working together, we can raise the profile of our sport, increase rider participation in an inclusive way, respect for competition and for each other, but most of all enjoy what we love doing most, just ride.
Stay safe and well.
