Tahlia O’Hare Heads Overseas
A lifestyle change for the whole family when Tahlia O’Hare was 5, started the wheels in motion for her future path. Moving to the hills and onto a small parcel of property, Dad decided the girls needed a motorbike to explore the surrounds. Tahlia was hooked from the get go! Finding stuff to jump and racing around as fast as the bike would go.
This turned into some fun on BMX’s and both Tahlia and her sister raced for a couple of years but Tahlia craved more. We looked into local clubs and the year she turned 8 the mx racing began.
TJ as she’s more commonly known, loved it and moved into racing open events and state rounds
with the boys in her second season. By 2014 with a few seasons of State Championship racing
under her belt we decided to head over East to give National competition a go and see how she
went against other females in the country. With some spurts of good racing but unfortunately a
big off and injured leg it wasn’t to be, but the seed was planted and TJ was up for the challenge…
the rest is history.
In 2015 she came close with only 2 points separating her from 1st place on the 85 and 3rd place
in her 1st year in the 125/250 female class. TJ went on to win Dual Australian National
Championships in 2016 at the Australian Junior Nationals on an 85cc and 125cc in the girls
classes as well as winning the Inaugural WA Girls State Championship on an 85 against the older
girls racing 125/250’s. TJ was awarded the MWA Patrons Award and also nominated for the RAC
junior sportsperson of the year.
2017 was her last year as a junior and she was able to podium with the boys in the Western
Australian State Championships with a 2nd place in 15yr 125 and a 5th overall in 250’s 13-u16,
Something she’d been trying to achieve for several years! She also claimed a back to back
Australian National Title in the Girls 125/250 class at the Australian Junior Championships, as well
as being named in the Australian team for the Oceanic title rights against New Zealand.
2018 saw TJ in her rookie year of Seniors. Not knowing where she’d sit in the rankings or what to
expect, TJ and her Dad made a plan to have a go at anything they could to get some insight and
experience. As well as race the WA State Championships in both Women’s and MX2, they entered
a qualifier for the NSW King of MX and raced at the final where she was able to take out the NSW
State Title against Australia’s elite! She also raced several rounds of the MXD National
Championships and the Australian Women’s National Championships. When that was all said and
done they also took on the New Zealand Women’s National Championship.
The experience brought knowledge, racing with Australia’s elite male and females, new tracks to
ride and meeting some wonderful people. TJ put in 100% effort and her results showed that! Also
receiving the MWAW award for Female Rider Recognition in Racing.
RESULTS 2018

Pre-season training for next year is well and truly underway, TJ joining forces with Josh Adam’s
Coaching program. Taking their training to a new level, the crew recently putting all their hard
work to the test in their 1st Triathlon where TJ was able to attain a 3rd in the 16+ group and a
credible 10th overall out of 63.
As we look to the 2019 season ahead, TJ’s goal is to ride in the ‘Mecca’ of Motocross and
experience all that it entails. Riding with the world’s elite women and on some of the world’s
toughest tracks. All her efforts geared towards racing in Europe for the 2019 season in both the
Women’s European Championship and Women’s World Championship (GP’s).
Planning is well underway for TJ to start the season in Europe to follow her dreams, she is looking
for support to help her make this happen. If you are interested in partnering with her to become
one of WA’s few mx athletes to race a full program in Europe please get in contact. If you know
TJ, she’s very big on supporting the people that support her!
