Round 5 of the Make Smoking History Senior Motocross Championships

WOW! – Round 5 of the Make Smoking History Senior Motocross Championships were fast…furious and the riders were on fire!!

Sunday dawned with clear skies and all our riders were in high spirits. The Wanneroo Junior Motocross Club turned it on with the track and facilities looking really good.

After a very wet & muddy round in Bunbury, it was great to see the sun. By the end of the day, the hit word was “BRUTUAL” – that’s how the track was described because by heat 3, there were huge craters and deep deep deep ruts everywhere with some riders really struggling and the remaining riders slogging it out as fast as they could to get through the final round of the day.

First to hit the circuit were the Cullys Yamaha Women’s Championship keen to consolidate on their Bunbury results.  Tahlia O’Hare led the way but a very determined Kara Cats kept her on her toes with Lily, Hannah, Chelsea & Megan keeping the push going. The day finished with Tahlia taking the win from Kara in second and Lily rounding out the podium.  Tahlia has stretched her lead in the Championship over Kara Cats by 54 points behind in 2nd place, Lily Kent is hanging firmly onto 3rd place and Megan Bagnall in 4th place.  One more round in the sand and this Championship will be resolved.

The fourth and final round of the Amateur Cup for Clubman riders was run and won. Series leader Jaxon Turner had some tough competition on the day with some topsy turvey results.  Callan Murphy took the day’s win from Jaxon and David Alexander in a very firm third place.  CONGRATULATIONS to all of these riders, who put in an excellent effort throughout this Mini Series and hope they will be back for 2019.  The Make Smoking History Amateur Cup Trophy winners were:

1st place – Jaxon Turner

 2nd place – Cheyne Speak

 3rd place – Matthew McMellon.

Our young guns in the Motul/Pirelli MX Championship showed their home turf knowledge to all and sundry. BeeFirm NRG sponsored rider Mat Fabry did not disappoint but Billy Middleton made him work for his win.  Breathe was bated during racing with the lead changing several times in mid-air over jumps between Mat, Billy & Mitchell.  By heat 3, the track was starting to take its toll but this class showed their mettle and fought to the bitter end.  Mat took the day from Billy in 2nd place and Mitchell for 3rd place.  Mat still leads the MX2 Championship with a points gap of 83 points back to Mitchell Outram and a mere 9 points to 3rd placed Billy Middleton. With some very solid racing done, it is now onto the home stretch and every one of these very talented riders will be there.

#208 Josh Adams had a goal and he made it happen in the Planet Honda MX1 Class yesterday at Wanneroo.  Despite some very hair raising moments, he made it come true.  Charlie Creech, Stevie Heilers and Paul Humbertson did not let him have it all his own way in any race.  David Birch battled hard all day long but could only manage 5th.  This class were on fire and the top ten had some very epic battles all day long.  Brutal, gut wrenching, gear breaking racing!!  The Series is still being led by David Birch on 485 points with Charlie Creech 61 points behind and Stevie Heilers a mere 14 points away on 410 points.

Last class onto the track for racing were The Brutum Logistics Quad Championship and after a disappointing round at Bunbury with bike failures Luke Gaisford was keen to make amends. It showed in heat 1 with Luke taking the win from a hard charging Chris Bosnakis. The Wanneroo track was not kind to these 4 wheeled warriors and there was some machine carnage throughout the day being suffered.  The day was won by Chris Bosnakis, 2nd place to Blake Croonen and James Ognenis in 3rd place.  A very disappointing day for some. The battles will continue with Chris leading the Championship 503 points; Blake Croonen on 376 points and Joel Mortimer in 3rd on 369 points.

Our Make Smoking History Veterans and Masters will return for their grand finale at Round 6 in September.
