Neville Cutts-Induction into Motorcycling WA’s Hall of Fame

Motorcycling WA are pleased to announce the induction of Neville Cutts into the Motorcycling Western Australia Hall of Fame for 2017, Neville is one of two Inductees to the Motorcycling WA Hall of Fame in 2017.

Neville Cutts was born in Manjimup in 1959, the second son of three boys to Betty and Bob Cutts. Bob was a keen scrambles rider and had won the prestigious Harley Scramble in 1960, so it was always likely Neville would follow in his father’s footsteps.

Neville was ten years old when his older brother got their first motorcycle - an 80cc Yamaha road bike which was promptly transformed into a motorcross bike.
That little 80 Yamaha was the start of it all and Neville, and his brothers all learnt to ride on the bike at the Manjimup track.

At the ago of twelve, Neville started riding a YZ125cc in junior motorcross events with great success.

By the time he was 15, he had progressed to a sponsored mono shock 125cc Yamaha, winning all of the 14 to 16 year races that season and his third Junior State Championship. Following his first Australian Championship event in 1975, he was contracted to ride for Suzuki for the next two seasons. In 1977 he won the 125cc and 250cc WA Championships and was second in the 125 cc Australian Championship.

Neville won the 250cc and Unlimited WA Championships after changing manufacturers to Honda in 1978. This was short lived however and he again made a change back to Suzuki the following year. After a visit to Japan to train with world champion Roger DeCoster, the 1979 season was very successful with Neville winning the 500cc and Unlimited WA Championships and the Australian Unlimited Championship.
In 1981 Neville rode for Honda Australia winning the 500cc WA Championship and in 1982 he was appointed Honda Australia’s first professional Motocross rider based in Melbourne. Neville competed for Honda throughout Australia for the next two years with limited success due to mechanical issues.

After celebrating seven WA Championships and one National Championship, Neville retired in 1984 to pursue varied business interests and raise a daughter with his partner, Beverley. He plays a good game of golf and still makes time to give motocross lessons and to encourage young riders.

Neville is truly thrilled to be inducted into the Motorcycling WA Hall of Fame and shared his thoughts with MWA, "I am honored to be inducted into Motorcycling Western Australia Hall of Fame and to know that I have my name alongside people that I idolized as a child is quite amazing".
Neville reflected "If you said to me as a 12 year old boy, that one day I would be inducted into the Hall of Fame, I would have laughed and said no way".
"Along the way a lot of good people have helped and guided me to achieve this award, to those people I would like to thank you with all my heart and I want you to know, it’s as much yours as it is mine. It takes years of blood, sweat and tears but to finally be awarded with this honor, makes it all worthwhile".
"I would also like to thank Motorcycling Western Australia for the opportunity to receive this honorable award".

Neville's proud daughter, Jade Cutts, said of her dad's induction to the Hall of Fame "I'm very proud to have a father who was able to go out and put all of his time and effort into a sport he loved it takes dedication and consistency to become so good at a sport and I'm so very pleased that he will be receiving this award he deserves it, I am one very proud daughter".
