The 2017 WA Classic Speedway Showcase is this Sunday on August 13th. The nomination list for the event is a virtual who's-who of the speedway world covering all the core-classes of the sport during the golden era. Amongst the mix of 'retro' and modern exhibits will be 20 Solos, 10 Sidecars, 25 TQ/Formula 500s, 16 Speedcars, 15 Super Mods/Hot Rods and Sprintcars and 5 sedans - all undercover at the famous Gloucester Park.
This list includes some vehicles in various stages of restoration, 3 of which can be classified as rare 'barn-finds'. These are well-worth a look. For those who remember the stars of the showground, race machines once driven by Bonza Bradford, Sharon Marriott, Geoff Pilgrim, Geoff Stanton, Laurie Hardie, John Singleton, Barry Blake, Noel McDonald, Dennis Nash, Graeme Harris, Bob O'Leary, John Andersson, Bill Richards, Trevor Kenworthy and many more will be on display.
There will be celebrations to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the opening of Claremont Speedway and organisers will speak to some of the all-time legends of the sport in Western Australia. The day will be full of live music from Tracey Burnett and Two Dollar Dog, a number of displays covering all types of speedway interests and engine start sessions (weather permitting) which is always a crowd favourite.
There will be memorabilia tables, door prizes, stickers, posters, raffles and of course the chance for everyone to win the special 90th anniversary banner signed by dozens of former Claremont Speedway competitors.
The "Make Smoking History Pinjar Park Motorcycle Speedway Club" will also be at Gloucester Park on Sunday, take a look at their bike display that will be there, photos of the riders and the construction of the new speedway track, grab a calendar or buy a stubby cooler or hat for $10!
Adults are only $10.00 per head, Kids under 16, $5.00 & Family $25.00.
It will be a great day, so don't miss it!
