Smiles all round at the recent Moto Girls ride day at Bunbury Motorcycle Club.

Despite the inclement weather forecast, the day continued on as planned with a massive "Thank You" to Jim and Ian and the team at Bunbury Motorcycle Club who put in the time Friday afternoon to prep the track for the girls, an amazing job well done!

The day saw quite a few new riders come along to have a go at riding on a motocross track for the very first time and the weather held off to make it a great day.  Congratulations to Elizabeth, Mel, Sarah, Michelle and Leah who all improved their skills throughout the day and had a ball!

Michelle and Leah travelled from Albany to come along and have a go and reported they felt very much supported and welcome to come and have a try. Despite being very nervous about their first time on a track, both increased their speed and confidence during the day and got to meet many new people who were able to offer advice and support too.  The girls said a thing they learned on the sand was “if in doubt, go flat out!!” awesome.

Motorcycling Western Australia Women’s committee members were on hand to offer coaching and support to all the girls during the day which was a great help too.

Elizabeth borrowed a bike to be able to come along and have a try, normally a downhill mountain biker she took to riding like a duck to water. Special thanks to Avril Gill who loaned a bike to Elizabeth when she had some bike trouble to allow her to continue on. Avril’s dad Michael also provided some tips which helped her to increase speed and she even tried some jumps by the end of the day.
Mel was the most nervous of all but she didn’t give up and kept going despite getting stuck in the back soft section.  Mel said the day was great and she really appreciated the support from the committee and other riders there on the day, she is looking to come along to the next MWAW event.

The award winning MWAW committee are a dedicated bunch of people committed to offering women and girl’s opportunities to ride together at various locations around the state. The committee volunteer their time and skills to help out and support the growth of women’s participation in the sport and plan a range of things to support all disciplines.

Funds raised from the Bunbury ride day are planned to go towards supporting the Western Australian women who will be competing in the Australian Supermoto Championships to be held at Wanneroo in November this year.

Planning is now underway for our Chain Reaction Interclub Girls and Vets day at Lightweight Motorcycle Club. Stay tuned for more details and get in some training for our sensational senior relay cup and junior girls 65cc Cup.
See you all there!!
